Sam has been a developer for the past 10 years, whilst studying music at university he came to the conclusion that he’d need a secondary skill set. He began programming browser based games to teach himself, and when he graduated he moved to Bristol and got a job as a developer with his first digital agency, Southmedia. He worked his way up to Senior Developer before being made redundant, at which point he decided start his freelance and contract based career.
The decision to set up Starterup came when he was collecting his portfolio together and realized that it was as strong as many digital agencies that he’d seen, but also a lot more eclectic with regards to the type of clients he’d been working with and the work he’d acquired from his connections in the music industry such as creating apps for Boomtown Festival and Cosmo Sheldrake.
He now plans that, with his experience and contacts, he will build a digital agency that is extremely accessible to clients from all walks of life, from getting their first website online to creating an app for an event attended by 66,000 people.
